Theatre News Roundup: 7/9

I attended The Visit CD signing today. It was a short event but wonderful to be in a room full of so much love and thrilling to speak briefly to Chita Rivera and John Kander. Also, you'll see down below that I've added a new heading to the TNR for tickets and rush. I've been thinking of doing something like this for a while because it's a shame that ticket info has been buried at the end of the TNR's in the past.

TKTS (TICKETS/RUSH/ETC)
  • Goldstar is offering $32.50 tickets ($40 with fees) for performances of the Cleveland Orchestra at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center. Dates are between July 15 and July 18.
I Hope I Get It (CASTING)
  • Bryce Pinkham, who was Tony-nominated for creating the role of Monty Navarro in the Broadway production of A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, will return to the Tony-winning production July 28.
  • Tony and Academy Award winner Frances McDormand will play Lady Macbeth in the Berkeley Repertory Theatre's production of Macbeth, part of the company's upcoming 48th season. Directed by Daniel Sullivan, performances will begin in February 2016. 
  • The Tony-winning Best Musical The Lion King welcomes L. Steven Taylor and Jelani Remy as Mufasa and Simba, respectively, beginning July 10 at the Minskoff Theatre.
  • Cassie Beck, Reed BirneyJayne HoudyshellGreg Keller, Sarah Steele and Joyce Van Patten will star in Stephen Karam's The Humans, which will make its New York debut Off-Broadway this fall.
Come to the Cabaret (CABARETS/CONCERTS/ETC)
  • The 26th annual New York Cabaret Convention will be offered at The Town Hall Oct. 13-16.
  • Before Sara Bareilles' music hits Broadway with the new musical Waitress, actors from Broadway's hottest shows will go Uncharted and explore her songs in concert at 54 Below July 26.

A Musical (MUSICALS)
  • The Spaghetti and Meatball Players will present Sam LaFrage's The Commedia Rapunzel as part of the 19th annual New York International Fringe Festival (FringeNYC) Aug. 14-30 at the 14th Street Y.

It’s Only a Play (PLAYS)
  • Comedian Colin Quinn returns with his latest solo comedy, Colin Quinn The New York Story, which is directed by Jerry SeinfeldColin Quinn The New York Story begins performances at the Cherry Lane Theatre Off-Broadway July 9, opens July 23 and runs through Aug. 16.
One Song Glory (ALBUMS)
  • Lin-Manuel Miranda has turned to members of the “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” house band to produce the forthcoming original cast album of the Broadway musical Hamilton.

A Foggy Day in London Town (UK NEWS)
  • In the Heights has announced a London return. It will begin performances Oct. 3 at King's Cross Theatre in a revival of the production previously seen at Southwark Playhouse in 2014. It is booking through Nov. 1. 
I Want to Go to Hollywood (MOVIE NEWS)
  • Stephen Karam's 2007 Off-Broadway Speech & Debate is reportedly being filmed with original stage star Sarah Steele

Let Me Be Your Star (TV NEWS)
  • Aaron Tveit will play the leading role of Danny Zuko in Fox TV's Grease: Live.


Stop! Wait! What?! (EVERYTHING ELSE)
  • Patti LuPone apparently had it up to here with a persistent texter during the July 8 evening performance of her play Shows for Days at Lincoln Center and literally snatched it out of her hands.
  • Artistic director Jackie Maxwell and the Shaw Festival announced the company's 2016 season, which will mark Maxwell's 14th and final season at the Ontario venue.
  • Update on the Hand of God phone charging incident
