Theatre News Roundup: 7/23

I saw Preludes again tonight. I'm glad that I did though it's debatable whether or not it improved on a second viewing. I was better able to appreciate it as a whole and I wasn't as blinded (or blind-sided) by the final therapy scene but of course you lose something when you know which emotional beats are coming. Another Op’nin, Another Show (OPENINGS)

• This summer's Shakespeare in the Park continues with the staging of Cymbeline, starring Patrick Page, Hamish Linklater, Lily Rabe and Raúl Esparza. Previews begin July 23 ahead of an official opening Aug. 10. 
• Comedian Colin Quinn, returns with his latest solo comedy, Colin Quinn The New York Story, officially opening July 23. 

I Wanna Be A Producer (IN DEVELOPMENT)

• The fifth annual Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival has announced its line-up for 2016, and included in the slate is the Broadway-aimed From Here to Eternity, penned by lyricist Tim Rice with Stuart Brayson and Bill Oakes. The Festival will also produce an engagement of the new musical Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
• Ryan Scott Oliver's We Foxes, a new Southern Gothic musical thriller about an orphan girl in search of salvation, will receive a closed reading at Playwrights Horizons July 24. Emily Rogers stars as Willa opposite a cast that includes Jill Abramovitz, Ben Crawford, Ben Fankhauser, Cory Jeacoma, Natalie Charle Ellis, Tori Huston-Elem, Will Erat, P.J. Griffin, Azudi Onyejekwe, Jen Perry, Jim Stanek and Katie Thompson.

I Hope I Get It (CASTING)

• Benjamin Walker, who starred in the title role of Broadway's Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, will play serial killer Patrick Bateman in the Broadway debut of American Psycho.
• Roundabout Theatre Company has announced casting for the Roundabout Underground world‐premiere production of Lindsey Ferrentino's Ugly Lies the Bone, which will begin previews Sept. 10 prior to an official opening Oct. 13. The cast will feature Karron Graves (Kacie), Mamie Gummer (Jess), Caitlin O'Connell (Voice/Their Mom), Chris Stack (Stevie) and Haynes Thigpen (Kelvin). 
• Casting has been announced for the new dance musical Trip of Love, which is inspired by and set to the hit songs of the 1960s. Created, directed and choreographed by James Walski, the production will begin previews Sept. 26 prior to an official opening Oct. 18 at Stage 42, formerly The Little Shubert Theater (422 West 42nd Street).
• Additional casting has been announced for New York Stage and Film and Vassar College's Powerhouse Season. The 31st season, which will feature various readings, workshops and mainstage productions, began June 26 and continues through Aug. 2 at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie.
